Get Involved

One of the simplest ways to get involved with the Faculty Association is to volunteer for one of the many committees. We currently have a number of openings:

Collective Bargaining Committee (TTTF)
Durham Region Labour Council Delegate
Equity Committee
Finance Committee
Governance Committee
Grievance Committee
Joint Committee on Employment Equity
Joint Health and Safety Committees

Faculty of Education representative
Junior Grievance Officer

Deadline to apply for consideration for any of these positions is Monday May 28, 2018.

Collective Bargaining Committee
Although Teaching Faculty are currently working on negotiating their second agreement, it is important to also note that Tenured and Tenure-Track Faculty’s agreement will be expiring this coming academic year. We need a group of people willing to take on the work leading up to negotiations. This will include surveying the membership to determine our priorities, as well as finding ways to ensure the community at large is aware of our negotiations. Click here to apply for this position.

Equity Committee

The FA Equity Committee is one of the newest committees at the Faculty Association. During its first stages, it is currently working to find ways to ensure equitable practices are present both at UOIT and within the Faculty Association itself. Click here to apply for this position.

Finance Committee
The Finance Committee is responsible for advising the FA Executive on financial matters. This includes investments of the Faculty Association, analysis of University’s budget, assistance in drafting the FA budget, etc. Click here to apply for this position.

Governance Committee

Joint Health and Safety Committees
These committees are required by the Ontario Health and Safety Act, one for each location, and they generally meet every other month. The terms of reference are available here. Click here to apply for this position.

Joint Committee on Employment Equity
The Committee on Employment Equity (CEE), as set out in both Collective Agreements, endeavours “to study systemic discrimination as described above, recommend corrective action to the Employer and the Association, and monitor the progress and outcomes of initiatives taken.” Click here to apply for this position.

Faculty of Education Representative
Faculty representatives help ensure communication between their faculty at the Faculty Association. As a faculty representative, you would be a voting member of the executive council. Click here to apply for this position.

The Executive Committee reviews applications and determines the makeup of the committees, subject to ratification at the next general membership meeting.
